Encounter 1 — the wagon (Reckless Pursuit)
You get ambushed on the road to Pengzhen. This version is short and scripted: you only need to take him to half health and a cutscene takes over.
The opening is a free window
He opens with five chain attacks ending in a parryable hit. Perfect parry the fifth and a button prompt appears — mash it to trigger Ghoststep. Take the hits it gives you; that sequence removes a huge chunk of his bar before the fight has really started.
After he repositions
He drops out for a moment and resets at the back of the wagon, then comes back with another parryable strike. The downtime is short — have the parry ready rather than chasing him.
The midair chain swing
When he launches himself with the chains, expect four blockable swings, a landing back into the carriage, a short lunge, and a parryable finisher. Hold block through the four, then parry on the blue glint. No dodging required.
Encounter 2 — the Great Waterfall (Steel and Steam)
Same weapon, longer fight, and the arena is now the problem: his reach is roughly half the arena. Everything below assumes you stay close.
The opener and the double side jump
He starts with a five-hit slash combo into a heavy parryable attack — block the combo, parry the finisher, take the stagger.
Then comes the pattern that defines the phase: two side jumps, a forward lunge with a double slash, and another parryable hit. He repeats it often. Treat the side jumps as your cue to stop attacking and get the parry ready — the blue glint comes late in the lunge.
The tornado
Three AoE slashes around him spawn a water tornado. It cannot be parried or blocked — clear it first, heal if you are low, and only then look for his follow-up lunge. That lunge carries a blue glint and is parryable; a successful parry staggers him and buys your window.
His bar emptying is not the end
When the health bar runs out at the waterfall he does not die — he transforms. The second form has longer combos, faster attacks and its own drop, so it gets its own page.

Gear
| Slot | Pick | Why |

| Main weapon | Scarlet Wraithblade | From Hua; drains his Sha-Chi fast |
| Main weapon | Jagged Steel | Bleed; Rampage during staggers |
| Phantom Edge | Dread Axe | Charged heavies on the stagger windows |
| Medicine | Focus Pill | Extra healing for the waterfall fight |
| Accessory | Battle Wraps / Hunter’s Insight | Damage and read help, both available by now |
Everything listed is obtainable in Weeping Creek Valley before the second fight.
Rewards
Nothing from the wagon fight, and nothing from the waterfall phase either — Hunter’s Chain Sickle drops from the transformed form. Read that page if the drop is what you are after.
Notes
- Encounter 1 ends at half health. Stop trying to kill him there.
- Every chain string ends parryable. Learn the finisher, not the string.
- The tornado is a reposition, not a damage check.
- Stay inside his reach. Distance is his advantage.
- The waterfall does not end at zero health. He transforms.
